Needed the Netflix-DVR mashup
I’d like to see a mashup that allowed my DVR to record anything that was in my Netflix queue. I sort of do this manually but it’s a pain to use the DVR search feature. I’d like the DVR to just pull down everything in my Netflix Queue and record it automatically.
I know what your thinking. If Netflix did this, then why would you need Netflix. The simple answer is not everything I want to see is going to be broadcast soon. Also, I like to take a few discs with me when traveling, helps kill time in airports. Finally, I have a lot invested in Netflix at this point. I have rated hundreds of movies and I have synced up with 10 friends. I am not leaving anytime soon.
Update: Robert posted a Greasemonkey script that lets you search Tivo or Blockbuster right from Netflix. Check it out.
That would be awesome! And Netflix should be on-board because all it does is reduce inventory pressure and postage expense. Have you emailed them about something like that? And I’d imagine TIVO is looking for whatever tie-ins it can find these days.
[...] Brandon had another cool idea which he posted on his blog. In short, he thought it’d be cool to be able to automatically schedule recordings on your DVR for the titles in your Netflix queue. I’ve been playing around with Yahoo! Pipes recently and this seemed like an ideal candidate project. Pipes is a GUI scripting tool for doing things with RSS feeds, like mashups. [...]
Great idea. You can almost get this working using Yahoo! Pipes. I wrote about my failed attempt on my blog.
