The Art of Saying Nothing
Ever notice how good everyone is at saying nothing? In my quest to get more high-definition channels, I sent this email to DIRECTV.
Hello DirecTV,
First off, love the service. Keep up the good work.
Now, when will the local high-def channels be available in Austin, TX (Zip code 78750, Travis County). This link says September: http://directv.com/DTVAPP/packProg/channelChart2.jsp?assetId=1100086. Do you have a date set yet? What is the cost and process of upgrade.
Thanks,
Brandon
Here is their response:
Dear Mr. Whichard,
Thanks for writing. I understand how important HD programming is to you. A careful review of your account reveals that local channel programming in High Definition is unavailable in Austin TX area at this time, but we expect it to be available by Fall 2006. HD local channels are available in select cities, and we’ve already launched HD locals in 36 cities and we hope to offer more HD locals markets by the end of the year. Visit our web site at DIRECTV.com/Local for more information.
In the meantime, you may be able to get your local channels in HD for free by installing an off-air antenna. A local electronics store can recommend an antenna for you. Once local HD programming launches in your city, customers with HD receivers will be eligible for an MPEG-4-compatible receiver replacement.
If you want to replace your HD DVR, you may need to wait a bit longer. Our new MPEG-4-compatible DIRECTV HD DVR receiver is expected to be available in early 2006. We’re committed to providing the best in HDTV programming.
Not only that we plan to add more local channels in HD, we’re also in constant discussions with program providers to continue adding new channels and programming to our High Definition Package.
Sincerely,
XXXXXX
DIRECTV Customer Service
Don’t get me wrong, I love DIRECTV and the NFL Ticket. All I want to know is when the high-def local channels are coming… Instead they tell me nothing in a very professional and polite manner. Thanks DIRECTV, thanks for nothing.
