An entire generation of developers are now devoted and converted to Java. Java has become a religion for them, anything that is not Java calls into to question their very essence of who they are.  It reminds very much of the C++ vs. Java debates of the mid-nighties. If I were older, I am sure it would remind me of Cobal vs. Visual Basic.

Is Ruby the next big thing? I really can’t say for sure but it does seem to have all the makings of the Gen-Y programming language of choice. Sure, the Java people will rail against it. Much like the C++ developers worshiped the linker and scoffed at Java. Every generation picks a new language otherwise everyone would be coding assembly.
