Reclaiming an old PC
Cote was riffing on putting Linux on old PCs, which got me thinking.
I’d like to see Linux installs get even simpler by offering highly-targeted install packages. Ideally, I would like to see a simple file server package that installs the absolute minimum to get an old PC up and running as file server. Who doesn’t need a place to back up files?
I’d also like to see a kiosk install that loads the bare minimum to get a PC up connected to the Internet and runs only a Web browser.
Every 18 months there is a whole crop of old computers looking to be reclaimed for something. Why not make that a beachhead for Linux?
That’s a good idea. Indeed, setting up a file server/NAS is what I’m planning on doing with the current crap box.
