Book Review: Teamwork is An Individual Skill
I just finished Christopher Avery’s: Teamwork is An Individual Skill. I recommend it to anyone wanting to work better on teams, which is almost anyone! The bulk of the book outlines how the behavior of the individual affects the team. If I were to summarize the book in one two words they would be: personal responsibility. The book offers is an insightful look at how to apply personal responsibility to teamwork and how taking responsibility leads to more effective teams. Definitely worth the read.
Here are five four quotes:
“Raise your standards for good team performance, and start being responsible for your own team experience.” (page 27)
“To make yourself a powerful motivator, help other people tell you what’s in it for them to work on a project with you.” (page 57)
“To move forward together, establish shared clarity.” (page 85)
“An effective apology signals responsibility and learning, not subordination or shame.” (page 130)
Um - that is only four quotes. Added this to my wishlist nyway, though.
Well, I guess I should read a book on the basics of counting next time
