From an academic and theoretical standpoint, it’s great news that Microsoft will support ODF. From a practical point of view, I wonder if it matters. Personally, I find anytime you try to import/export files you lose something. Even moving between different versions of Microsoft Office seems to cause problems.

I guess I have just been burned too many times by import/export. The best option is always to use the same software that originally created the file. That’s the only way to truly ensure nothing breaks. Hmm, maybe Microsoft knows this too…
