Identity Tipping Point
MyOpenID is now hosting a live implementation of OpenID. Granted only a limited number of other sites support it but the fact there is a usable public implementation is a major step forward. Today, Chris Messina called on 37Signals to add support for OpenID to BaseCamp.
37Signals is in the power position when it comes to influencing early adopters and I wonder if they could provide the tipping point triggering OpenID’s broad appeal? They are uniquely positioned to do this since they host popular web applications and are well regarded within the development community for their work on Rails. Would their endorsement be enough to encourage others to use OpenID? Time will tell…
