Freedbacking Bloglines
The bloglines team is looking for some freedback. Here are my top 5 suggested changes:
- Remove the “My blog” feature. There are so many alternative blog publishing services that this one is just redundant. The ability to publish blogs merely detracts from the core blog-reading features of Bloglines.
- Replace “Clippings” with Del.icio.us integration. When it comes to online bookmarks, everyone is using Del.icio.us. Why not offer a tighter integration with it? Alternatively, allow anyone to plugin their bookmarking service of choice?
- Get rid of the exclamation point (!) indicator. Replace it with a message that is displayed in the right panel when a user clicks on the affected blog. Make the message more descriptive by giving more information about why the feed is not updating.
- Add the ability to cluster related blog posts much like Google news. We all know the blogsphere has a tendency to become an echo chamber. I would dearly love a feature that looked over all the feeds and clustered related posts together.
- The “Add, Edit, Options” links at the top and the “Extras list” at the bottom of the left frame feel out of place. The navigation is awkward and I find myself clicking around to find simple things like import/export of opml. I’d suggest re-working the flow.
Thanks for asking.
